The Congregation is planning a triennial of celebrations to mark the bicentenary of the Congregation. The founding date is taken to be that day when the two Founders co-signed an agreement to join their separate efforts so as to work together to form one congregation. That historical date is 6th June 1819. However, their project came to reality in September of 1820 when the two groups met together at Auray for the first recorded retreat of the congregation.

The first year of celebration will begin on 6th June 2017 and end on 5th June 2018. It will carry the overall theme of Unity - Be United. The scond year will begin on 6th 2018 and end on 5th June 2019, the overall theme is Mission - Go out into mission. The third year of celebration will begin on 6th June 2019 and end in September on a date to be chosen.

Each Province is expected to think out ways of celebrating. A bicentenary hymn / song and video is one of the activities planned. Gifted composers are welcome to begin thinking. It is hoped that when the best hymn will be selected it will be taught to all our students in all the institutions across the globe. A video showing the different students singing will then be realised.

The first group of Brothers: Brother Charles Jules Poitras, as their leader, then Brothers Joachim Leo, Eugene Mary and Stanislaus, all from Canada coming to Africa to found the East African Mission arrived at Kisubi on August 4th 1926. On August 4th this year it will be exactly 90 years since the Brothers arrived in this country. We are grateful to God for the faith and courage of these Missionary Brothers and all those who followed them thereafter. They laid a firm foundation of which we are beneficiaries. On August 4th 2016, the Province will mark ninety years of the uninterrupted mission of the Brothers of Christian Instruction in Uganda.

How B.C.I came to E.A, Uganda

The Brothers of Christian Instruction came to Uganda at the invitation of the White fathers, who were responsible for the Uganda Vicariate, in 1926. They settled at Kisubi near Entebbe, where they have their provincial Headquarters – hence the popular name in Uganda of “the Kisubi Brothers”
